BORDEN-CARLETON — The government of PEI, in conjunction with the federal government and several corporate interests, announced today that they will be adding a third lane to the Confederation Bridge to allow travelers quicker access to the Costco in Moncton.
“Listen, getting over across to the Costco has always been a hassle,” said a government spokesperson. “You have to slow down to like 90 on the bridge, which sucks because you’re probably going like 100 on the Island and then you can just give’r on the divided highway. The bridge is supposed to speed up traffic, not slow it down.”
[The Costco Expresslane] can only be accessed by scanning an active Costco membership card.
In order to facilitate travel, the bridge will be expanded by one lane to get people over to New Brunswick as quick as possible. This new lane will have no set speed limit, but can only be accessed by scanning an active Costco membership card while paying the toll.
In a first for the bridge, drivers in the new Costco Express lane will be able to preview sales and specials on dynamic roadside billboards that change daily. Travelers with Executive-level membership cards will also receive special deals sent directly to their phones.
Construction is expected to begin next week, and will take three years to complete at a cost of $700 million dollars — however, the government is paying using their Costco credit card, so they will receive 1% cash back.
