SHERWOOD — A major investigation by Charlottetown Police that spanned several weeks resulted in the arrest of 47 individuals for skating clockwise in a rink that is clearly marked as counter-clockwise.
“We did it!” said a jubilant source in the Charlottetown Police who wished to remain anonymous. “We just broke up the major clockwise skating gang in Sherwood. I can only speculate, but I’d bet that this won’t be a problem for other rinks now that [clockwise skaters] know there are severe repercussions.”
The source, who had infiltrated the gang known as “Clockers,” revealed that skating clockwise was seen as a step in subverting the control of society.
“They – those Clockers – are just bad news,” added the source. “They won’t be missed at any rinks.”
According to a 1921 provincial statute, the fine “[F]or ice-skating in a manner unbecoming an Islander, with the Intent to Change Direction or otherwise Interfere with the Enjoyment of other skaters” is listed at $5.00 per infraction.
