Christmas recap: An average of 14 Tim’s gift cards exchanged at every office Christmas party

STRATFORD – The Canadian Bureau of Statistics and Figures released a study that shows that in the 2023 holiday office party season, an average of 14 Tim’s gift cards were exchanged.

“The Tim’s card is a perfect gift for someone that you only sort of know, but still want to remain on polite terms during the workweek,” said the report. “Although no one over the age of 8 is excited after receiving a $10 Tim’s card, no one refuses them either.”

“On average, one in every 6 gifts exchanged through Secret Santa, Yankee Swaps, or other methods of intra-office holiday gift exchange mechanisms in 2023 was a Tim’s gift card.”

The report also noted that tins of Quality Street candy, once a premier gift to receive, has decreased nearly 40% in the past ten years.

“Due to changing office demographics, most young people associate Quality Street candy with the older generation of workers. We expect to see a continued decrease in the distribution of this once-familiar holiday treat as the average age of office workers decreases.”

The report also added that younger people are more likely to buy and receive ironic gifts, or even an IOU for a gift to be named later.
