Animals native to only PEI (or maybe Cape Tourmentine)

  • Parkade pigeons: Found in all three parkades in Charlottetown, the parkade pigeon is known for its grey plumage, cooing calls, and its near-constant defecation.
  • Burger King seagulls: A critically endangered species with its habitat only around Burger King in Charlottetown, the Burger King seagull can be differentiated from other, lesser seagulls by the appearance of fries in its mouth.
  • Victoria Park crows: The crows rule Victoria Park with an iron fist from dusk until dawn. Woe be to any interloper.
  • Self-buttering lobster: These reportedly-delicious crustaceans are found mostly in New Glasgow, Rustico, or other all-you-can-eat seafood restaurants.
  • Myron’s cougar (extinct 2005): Known for their ability to consume several vodka and 7s, the Myron’s cougar allegedly preyed exclusively on young men aged 18-25.
  • Dune goblins: Appearing only on the North Shore from early June to mid-September, Dune goblins are responsible for maintaining the famous dunes on beaches. Leave a loonie out for them if you can!
  • Friggin’ skunks: These friggin’ friggers are everywhere. If you don’t friggin’ see them, you’ve friggin’ smelled them.
  • Deer: Only on the Island. You might think you’ve seen them in New Brunswick, but no, you’re wrong. Absolutely wrong.
  • The Beast of Parkdale: The less said of the Beast the better – it devours several people each year to feed its lust for blood.
  • Frenchman: Every now and then, you’ll hear their call in Charlottetown.
  • Junebugs that show up in May: These guys are the worst.
  • Donair beasts (extinct 2022): The most delicious animal ever to call the Island home. The donair beast was a massive quadruped that smelled slightly of garlic and was frequently covered in a sweet, white sauce with tomatoes and onions.
  • Crapaud: It’s a toad, but it carries an Acadian flag.
  • Captain Morgan’s Drunkards (aka Rummy Tummies): Frequently seen in company of the Myron’s Cougar, the Captain Morgan’s Drunkards were large beasts who had one too many rum and cokes and should have left a long time ago.
  • Fox-headed foxes: A fox with the head of a fox, and also the body of a fox, but also loves potatoes.
  • Clam of Green Gables: An invasive species that arrived from Nova Scotia in 1908 that we have claimed as our own.
  • Pownall Penguins: Actually a minor hockey team.
