Your great-aunt would like to remind you that summer is now over

BELFAST — Your great-aunt Gertrude “Gertie” Doiron — your grandfather’s sister — would like to remind you that since Old Home Week is now over, so is summer, and you should unpack your winter gear.

“You can feel the change in the air,” says Gertie. “It’s just a bit crisper out there.”

“Could you pass me my shawl? There’s a breeze,” said Gertie, despite looking at a thermometer reading over 30 degrees Celsius.

The long-range meteorological forecast predicts weather in the high 20s during the day, dipping to high teens overnight, but with a significant but immeasurable chill.

As every Islander knows, Old Home Week marks the end of summer, and it is recommended that you make an appointment in the near future to have your winter tires put on.

As well, Gertie would like to know what she should get your Christmas, and whether the mittens she knit for you last year still fit.
