AVONLEA — A major Hollywood producer has excited fans of Anne of Green Gables with the announcement of the Avonlea Cinematic Universe, tying together various stories, novels, movies, musicals, and mini-series together.
“We can’t wait to show you how Road to Avonlea, Emily of New Moon, and Anne with an E are all actually set in the same multiverse,” says Hollywood producer Guy Barrington. “There are so many stories to tell, and we know that fans are as excited as we are.”
“It only makes sense to bring [the multiverse] to the Avonlea properties.”

The accompanying press release notes that all Annes have lived in their own version of a multiverse, and that in each instance except for the 2001 Anne of Green Gables: The Animated Series, Matthew Cuthbert has passed away. The sequence of events in the newly-establish timeline will be referred to as Before Death of Matthew and After Death of Matthew.
“Audiences have matured — and so have their expectations,” continues Barrington. “When you look at the major movie franchises with 10, 15, 20 movies interconnected and succeeding with audiences, it only makes sense to bring this same formula to the Avonlea properties.”
Barrington also announced two new additions to the Avonlea canon: origin stories explaining the background of Josie Pye and Moody Spurgeon, two classmates of Anne’s from their time in Avonlea.
Pye in the Sky will be a character-driven exploration of the generational trauma that culminated in the birth of Avonlea’s most frightening creature: Josie Pye. Meanwhile, Moody will be a gritty, gothic thriller that delves into the dark underbelly of turn-of-the-century rural Prince Edward Island.
Barrington noted that casting will soon begin on Rilla of Ingleside, a series focusing on a new generation of Avonlea children who will face challenges from a mythical past that no modern audience will ever experience.
