Seagull this far inland could mean good weather, bad weather

KINKORA — A dozen stray seagulls this far inland — seemingly healthy, as far as seagulls go — could mean only one of two things: either there’s going to be good weather, or bad weather.

This prediction comes from a certain Roger McDonald, a longtime watcher of seagulls and their meaning when it comes to ambivalent weather forecasting.

“You see, seagulls are water birds. They only come this far into land and away from the water if there’s a storm brewin’,” says McDonald.

“On the other hand, seagulls will come inland to eat if the weather’s nice. You know, just like a tourist would,” continues McDonald. “It’s hard to tell with gulls.”

According to data kept by McDonald whenever he sees a seagull, the birds can signal good or bad weather with a 55% accuracy record. However, there is one animal that he does not trust to predict the weather: cows.

“Cows? Cows are a different story altogether. You never can tell with cows. But gulls tell a story. You might not know how it’ll end, but it’s a story.”
