RUSTICO — Reports circulated yesterday of a restaurant where all items on the menu have one — or multiple — items in quotation marks.
Sammy’s Diner, a local restaurant specializing in pub “favourites” and local “cuisine,” advertises itself as “Famous for our ‘generous’ portions!”
A brief glance through the restaurant’s 14-page laminated menu revealed multiple appetizers and entrees with various words in quotation marks — the most obvious being “Deep” “Fried” “Pickles” in “Cheese” “Sauce.”
Recent additions, including “Chicken” fingers, “Cheese” burgers with “bacon,” Caesar “salad” and “Nachos” with cheese, have left many customers scratching their heads when it comes to ordering.
“Well, I mean, I’m not sure what I’m really getting when I order something,” local customer Skip Matheson says. “Usually a club sandwich doesn’t have “sand” in quotation marks. But it still tastes ok to me, and for $4.99, it’s still a good deal.”
Matheson concluded that he will probably go with the “donair” egg rolls, since donair meat is already questionable at best.
